LISA£333.33£83.33 (25% bonus)—N/A — deferred to April 2027
Combined monthly growth£1,125

Key insight: You sacrifice £660 from your bank account (£240 net Widows + £420 SIPP), but your pension pots grow by £1,125/month. That’s £465/month in “free wealth” from tax relief and employer match. LISA bonus of £1,000/year will be captured as a lump sum in April 2027.

Freetrade SIPP8.4%£420£525—£525
Total Pension~14.4%£660£825£300£1,125

Tax outcome: £60,000 - £10,000 (gross pension) = £50,000 adjusted net income — exactly at basic-rate threshold.

Critical: The extra 20% higher-rate relief (£105/month on SIPP, £60/month on Widows) must be claimed from HMRC — not automatic. Update monthly after each payment.

Investments

ISA — “The Flex Plant” (£83k)

Purpose: High growth + liquidity (potential 10-year horizon) Strategy: 90/10 Global Core Pie (MXWS / EMIM)

ComponentTicker (GBP)WeightFee

Key settings:

  • ✅ GBP-denominated (avoid FX fees)
  • ✅ Self-balance enabled
  • ✅ Trading 212 card cashback auto-invests into this Pie

Expected return: ~8.5% net (after ~0.06% weighted fee)

SIPP — “The 30-Year Engine” (£33.5k combined)

Purpose: Maximum 30-year ROI, zero liquidity needed until 57+ Strategy: 100% VALL (Vanguard FTSE Global All-Cap UCITS ETF - Accumulating) across both platforms Fee: 0.07% ongoing

PlatformValueNotes
Freetrade£31,000Original SIPP, Dodl → Freetrade transfer complete
Trading 212£2,500New SIPP, auto-invest features
Total£33,500

Why VALL over Nitro:

  • Simplified: one ETF, one decision, no rebalancing
  • VALL covers developed + emerging + small-cap in a single accumulating wrapper
  • 0.07% fee — a third of VWRP’s 0.22%, same global-equity job
  • Both platforms hold the same fund, so no allocation drift between them

Key settings:

  • ✅ Accumulating (Acc) version
  • ✅ GBP-denominated (LSE-listed, zero FX)
  • ✅ T212: auto-invest available
  • ⚠️ Freetrade: manual buys only

Expected return: ~8-10% nominal (global equity long-term average)

Important: SIPP is 100% equity. Will have higher tracking error than S&P 500. Expect years where it lags — that’s the price of global diversification.

GIA — “The Overflow Pot” (£15.0k)

Current value: £14,968.33 (includes £1,666 deposit 25 Aug, HA live 06 Nov 2026) Purpose: Receives the monthly surplus Platform: Trading 212 Current holding: VWRP (predominantly) — will switch to 90/10 MXWS/EMIM to match ISA at the right point in time

Tax constraints (higher-rate taxpayer):

AllowanceAnnual LimitYour RateStrategy
CGT£3,00020% on gains above limitHarvest gains before April 5; low-turnover funds
Dividend£50033.75% on dividends above limitAvoid dividend-paying funds; prefer accumulation/growth

Best practices:

  • Use for low-turnover, low-dividend growth funds (minimizes tax drag)
  • Bed-and-ISA: Each April, sell in GIA → buy in ISA to use fresh £20k allowance
  • Track all purchases for CGT calculations (average cost basis)
  • Consider tax-efficient fund choices: accumulation > distributing, growth > value for GIA

When to fund: Monthly surplus (£1,593) flows automatically.

Rebased 15 Sep 2026: ISA start value updated to the live £85,603 (was £85,494 from the 3 Aug rebase, which had gone stale). SIPP row unchanged; all rows compound at the stated 8.4%.

These are statistical projections, not guarantees. Factor funds can underperform for 10+ year stretches.

The “Bridge” Problem (Age 60 → 68)

Gap: 8 years with no State Pension.

Strategy: Live entirely off £1.34M private wealth until State Pension kicks in at 68.

At 68: Net income jumps higher as State Pension (£11,500/year) adds to the 4% withdrawal.

Tax Tasks — Critical & Urgent

1. Claim Extra 20% Relief from HMRC

✅ Partially resolved — HMRC updated tax code to 1359L on 27 Jul 2026, reflecting actual SIPP payments made so far (£1,750 gross). Personal allowance now £13,593 (£12,570 + £60 uniform + £963 pension).

Process: Update HMRC monthly after each pension payment. Target: £10,000 total gross pension = £50,000 ANI = fully clear 40% band. Monthly SIPP increased to £420 net from Aug 2026.

Methods:

  • Self-assessment tax return — Already registered
  • HMRC app / Personal Tax Account — Used this to claim
  • HMRC app/phone — Update monthly after each SIPP and company pension contribution

2. What You CANNOT Claim

  • Moores Furniture Group pension: Salary Sacrifice — already got full relief at source. Nothing to reclaim.
  • Any pension contributions made via Salary Sacrifice — already optimized.

3. Self-Assessment Registration

✅ Already registered. No further action needed.

4. 2026/27 Tax Return Items (due 31 Jan 2028)

  • Declare capital loss: £570.27 net loss to HMRC — carry forward indefinitely to offset future gains. Do when filing 2026/27 self-assessment.
  • Claim Gift Aid tax rebate: Claim the higher-rate relief (20% extra) on charity donations made this tax year. Do when filing 2026/27 self-assessment.

Total Monthly Outgoings£1,259.69Sum of actuals above
Remaining after outgoings£1,593.13True surplus (bank screenshot) — not derived from the budget table

✅ Budget confirmed from Gemini screenshot. True surplus = £1,593/month. The budget table is an estimate; the surplus is read from the bank statement, so the two won’t tie exactly.

Mortgage (Principality, from 30 Jul 2026): Interest-only 4.4% on £124,000 → £454.67/mo. Two separate dates — do not conflate them:

  • Term: 25 years → the mortgage itself runs to 1 May 2051 (from the ESIS). Interest-only means the £124k must be repaid then, so the repayment shortfall must be invested. (If this were a 25yr repayment mortgage the payment would be £682.21/mo, i.e. £227.55/mo (~£228) more — that’s the excess that needs investing to build the repayment pot. At 6% return, ~£179/mo over 25yr builds it; at 8%, ~£130/mo.)
  • Product: 2 years → the RATE ends 31 August 2028 (ESIS; decision 18A). 6-month shop-around reminder set for ~29 Feb 2028.

⚠️ Corrections, 2 Oct 2026: this was recorded as fixed at 4.4%. It is not — it is a 2-year VARIABLE rate deal, so 4.4% can move within the 2 years. Also, the Harpenden recommendation emails give the product period as “2 years” in one place and “2 years and 3 months” in another, so the exact end date needs confirming against the mortgage offer (Principality: 0330 333 4000) rather than inferred. Details in renewals-tracker.md.

Notes & Assumptions

  • Growth rate: 5% moderate used for projections. Actual may vary 3-7%.
  • Inflation: Projections are nominal. At 2% inflation, purchasing power in 2056 is roughly half.
  • Student Loan: Plan 2 — may be written off after 30 years (April 2056). If not fully repaid by then, remaining balance forgiven.
  • State Pension: Assumes full 35-year NI record. Verify via gov.uk State Pension forecast.
  • Tax rules: Based on 2026/27 rules. Subject to government changes.
  • 2027 IHT pension changes: Pensions will likely become taxable in estate from April 2027.
  • ISA allowance: £20,000/year (use it or lose it).
  • SIPP annual allowance: £60,000/year (or 100% of earnings, whichever is lower).
  • Higher-rate tax relief: 40% total — 20% auto-claimed by provider, 20% YOU must claim from HMRC.
  • CGT allowance (GIA): £3,000/year — harvest gains before April 5th if needed. Sell GIA assets to realise gains up to the limit, then repurchase a legally distinct tracker/share class (e.g. VWRP → HSBC FTSE All-World) to avoid the 30-day same-asset rule.
  • Dividend allowance: £500/year — keep high-dividend stuff in ISA/SIPP.
  • FSCS cash protection: £120,000.
