Vault guide

This vault is ~/workspace — the same 118 markdown files Hermes reads and writes. There is no copy and no sync between two systems: Obsidian is a second view over one folder. Anything you read here is the same bytes the assistant sees, and anything you save here is what it reads next.

A record may be explained here and stored elsewhere; what must never happen is two independently maintained versions of the same current truth.

Machine-written files — read here, edit in the app

Six files are rewritten by scheduled jobs. Editing them here is allowed but pointless: the next run wins, silently, and Obsidian will never warn you.

  • general-todo-tracker.md
  • cross-tracker-intelligence.md
  • health/health-tracker.md
  • blood-pressure-tracker.md
  • investment-gains-tracker.md
  • solar-tracker.md

They are tinted in this vault (the ownership CSS snippet) as a reminder. The tint is name-based — Obsidian cannot see file ownership — so treat it as a cue, not a lock. The app carries the authoritative warning.

Where things go when you say “save this”

  • Something that happened (a call, a decision, a result) → diary/YYYY-MM-DD.md, append.
  • A system fix or a failure you want to remember → ops/ or the relevant note, not the diary.
  • A correction to how the assistant should behave → USER.md or a skill, not a note.
  • A mortgage, bill or subscription fact → mortgage-position.md or the matching register.
  • A rehearsal of a recurring task → a skill, so it runs again.
  • Not sure yet → say so; it lands in the chat, not in a stray note.

Folders

diary/ day notes · therapy/ sessions and compiled pages · health/ · finance/ · money/ registers · admin/ · home/ · ops/ system maps and runbooks · documents/ reports and audits · thinking/ · templates/

trashed/ and generated/ are excluded from search and graph in this vault on purpose — the first is deleted material kept for recovery, the second is machine output that the app already shows.

What not to do here

  • Don’t restructure the folders. The links, indexes and several cron jobs assume the current layout.
  • Don’t create a second vault with overlapping content. That is how two versions of the same fact start.
  • Don’t move the task list into markdown. It lives in SQLite because it has status, waiting-on and identity; a checklist here would be a competing account.
  • Don’t rename index.md files casually — links resolve by path, and several notes point at them.

Skills

skills/ is a generated mirror of the 108 procedures in ~/.hermes/skills — one file per skill, with its reference files listed but not copied. Read them here; edit the originals. skills-mirror.py runs daily at 06:15 and rewrites anything that changed, so a local edit to a mirrored file is lost.

Sync

This folder syncs to your phone over Syncthing (device RVZVGBR-…), send-and-receive. .stignore keeps out .git, trashed/, editor scratch and the six machine-written trackers — those are read in the Todo app, so the phone never races a scheduled job over them.
